Library Media Specialist

“I spend my days putting great books into the hands of great kids.”—That’s the way I describe my job to people who ask. Of course, I do so much more, but connecting kids and literature is the highlight of my profession.

Teaching has been my career throughout my adult life. At Southwestern Oklahoma State University, I attained my BA and MA in Education majoring in English and Speech/Theatre before beginning my teaching career. I started out as a drama teacher in high schools and middle schools then switched to teaching English. After several years of a great assignment teaching Advanced Placement Literature and serving as English Department Chairperson at Edmond Santa Fe High School, I decided to go to the University of Central Oklahoma for graduate certification as a Library Media Specialist.

In 2009, I came to Deer Creek to serve as librarian at DCES. I loved my super library students and enjoyed getting to know the DC families. I take pride in the fact that I have now taught grades K-12, in various capacities. The lure of being a charter faculty member of a new school drew me to Deer Creek Intermediate in 2012—this is the 4th new school to help start in my career! I love working with 5th and 6th graders and enjoy their literature. I know it is going to be great to work with them and all of their teachers.
